Up until now I have focused my school search almost entirely on trying to decide what the best school for my kids would be. Since I determined that private school might be a viable option, however, things have changed. Yes, school selection is still the end goal obviously, but now my attention, by necessity, turns to private school applications and entering ourselves in the charter school lotteries. This is by necessity, since the applications are due over the next several months. For me, I have not been focused enough to have the luxury of identifying a single preferred public school, private school or charter. As such, I’ll be applying to several privates and charters while doing more research on our local public school. I don’t necessarily consider my inability to pare down my list yet to be a bad thing–the application process will serve the main goal of identifying a school in that it will involve more research, more school visits and even interviews. Of course, the end result will also help because we will have a smaller list from which to choose–obviously it is highly unlikely that we will be offered a place in every charter/private school to which we apply.
