What school did you decide on? Meredith Elementary
Calendar year your child entered 2010
Grade your child entered Kindergarten
What neighborhood are you in? South Philly
What schools did you consider? We bought our house in the Meredith catchment — before we had kids — because we had done some research on public schools and found Meredith consistently ranked as one of the top in the city. We also knew plenty of people in the neighborhood who sent their kids there.
What factors were most important to you? Location, Reputation, School Performance (test scores, success of graduates), Teacher Quality
What first attracted you to the school? Hearing good things about it from neighbors.
What were the critical factors that led to your choice? With apologies to the Jenks lawn signs: Smart, Local, Public
Did you relocate in order to choose this school? Yes
On the political spectrum, I consider myself to be Progressive
Please share anything else about your experience There are a lot of good public schools in the city – that includes high school.
Masterman isn’t for everyone (literally).
There are plenty of other strong options.
