So today is the day many of you have been anticipating. Independence Charter, one of Philadelphia’s most highly sought after charter schools, is hosting its public enrollment lottery tonight at 6 PM 6:30 PM. You don’t have to attend in person to win a seat for the 2011-2012 school year, but many choose to do so if only to find out sooner. If you brave the heavy rain and go, what should you expect? Over a year ago, we published one parent’s experience of winning the lottery. It’s certainly worth reading to help you prepare for what to expect when you go (though obviously your personal results may vary). If you go, please share your thoughts and experiences with other parents in the comments below.
The lottery is actually a 6 PM. I just called ICS to confirm
how do i enroll in the lottery????
Too late for 2011-2012, sorry.
Thanks for pointing out the correction–I made it in the article.
My son is #64 on the 2nd Grade list… A real disappointment, but luckily we applied to some other schools and we put in for a VTP through our neighborhood school… I'll be keeping my fingers crossed…
Holy crap shoot Batman! She got it! I was home a sick zombie in my bed yestrday, and got the surreal call from a friend who who heard my daughter's name called out, but she said the process seemed very chaotic. So I did some sleuthing this morn, and even though the "official" confirmation will be on Monday, I'm pretty certain she made it, and not merely on the wait list (pardon the gloating tone, to those parents who didn't get in). Pinch me, I'm hallucinating.
… might I add that there were 400+ K applicants, and 11 spots for the Immersion program alone, with a lot of the spots taken up by twins and siblings of current students; the odds were rather stacked. An honest crap shoot.
